The BIG day finally
arrived. All the students did their Chautauqua character in front of the
camera. I know how nervous I was when I did my performance, so I thought
our new little friends did a WONDERFUL job! This has been one of my most
rewarding experiences in the UNM program. I just wanted to give all three
boys a big hug when the asked me, "How did I do?" Their
sparkling eyes told me how much they had enjoyed telling the story of their
Chautauqua character. I am looking forward to our final production, where
parents can beam and brag over their shining stars.
Laura McClenny from San
Juan County was our speaker this week. This was a real eye opener.
It is always good to hear that much of what we perceive about young people
today is not true. As future teachers we need to be aware of our
communities perceptions on drugs and alcohol and become instrumental in
supporting our youth through programs like the San Juan County Partnership.
