This class has given me a new insight into what it means to “know my students.”   In order to meet the learning styles of all my students I realize I must be sensitive to other cultural groups beliefs and values.  As an “educationalist” I want to encourage students to maintain their values and beliefs within their cultural groups.  Promoting a multicultural curriculum in the classroom will give students the opportunity to share their cultural backgrounds.  Letting students share their life experiences with other students will also help other students gain a better understanding of different cultures.

I have gained a lot of knowledge from this class about diversity, but I will learn much more about diversity through classroom experience.  Collaborating with experienced teachers and students will be valuable resources.  Keeping an open mind and educating myself about other cultures will also be an important key to a successful multicultural classroom.  My goal as a teacher is to provide a caring and safe classroom environment that promote cultural awareness and allows an equal opportunity for all students to learn.
